What is Play Therapy?

The demands of everyday life can make it difficult for children to experience choice, autonomy, and time to sit with and understand their emotions. Therapeutic play offers them a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space to express a full spectrum of emotions, make their own choices, and experience the outcomes of these.

Through non-directive play, using a variety of modalities such as music, art, stories, sandplay and puppetry, and a positive relationship with their therapist, this can aid in physical, emotional, and social development, including developments in self-esteem, social communication, sensory and emotional regulation and confidence.

Who is play therapy for?

Play therapy can be for anyone regardless of age, circumstances, or needs. It is a creative and flexible form of therapy that offers different ways to experience yourself through the world of play.

At Resources for Autism, we offer an autism specialist service that provides unconditional acceptance and empathy towards each child. We are currently offering therapeutic play to children with an autism diagnosis, those on the pathway to diagnosis, and siblings of children with a diagnosis.
